PayPal Launches ‘Checkout on Instagram’ and New Services for Tax Season

This week, PayPal announced two new expansions for its payment platform.

The first is the development of Checkout on Instagram, a service allowing Instagram users to buy products directly through the app. This is slightly different than Instagram’s shoppable ads, where users click on products they want to learn more about and are redirected to the company’s website. With Checkout on Instagram, buyers can purchase the product without a redirect. They can also track orders, check shipping, process returns, cancel transactions and request additional support through the checkout service.

PayPal also powers the peer-to-peer payment platform on Facebook Messenger. Users can send money to or request money from friends and family members via instant messaging. The Instagram service is not for peer-to-peer transactions. It is purely for making purchases.

Today, PayPal unveiled new services for the tax season. Taxpayers can now use PayPal to pay the IRS through payUSAtax.com. This includes small business taxes. Qualified applicants can also pay taxes over time with PayPal Credit, which provides up to six months of promotional financing.

Users who have a PayPal Cash Card can now have their tax refunds deposited directly into their PayPal accounts. They can then access the money through their card, use the funds for online transactions, or transfer it to their bank account.
